Healthier bodies leads to healthier minds: Day 2 of my 30 day challenge!

16th October 2017

I aim to go to the gym 3 times a week, and I find that it can become monotonous. Everything feels the same, it’s hard to stay motivated. I discovered an app called the 30 day challenge . If you’re not already aware of it, it has workouts for 30 separate days for either the whole body, abs, legs and arms, and I’ve decided to focus on whole body and abs for the next 30 days.  They’re short and snappy routines, but intense, and so don’t be concerned about how you’ll fit it in to your day!

Day 2- how did it go ?

The first few days have been a real challenge! I noticed a considerable difference in how tired I felt after day 2 compared to day 1 simply from a slight increase in the number of reps per exercise. A large part of my difficulty was that I am AWFUL at press ups, even on my knees, and after only doing 6 reps and 5 reps yesterday, my arms are really sore! As soon as I get half way down, I just can’t seem to go further without collapsing on to my stomach!

I decided to be organised this morning, and so got up at half 7 to do my laundry, and then did my challenge before my lecture at 10. It worked really well, and morning workouts are always good in terms of getting it over and done with so now I don’t have to worry about trying to fit it in what with uni stressors. It also splits routines up in to easy, medium and hard, and I’ve picked medium. Examples of exercises include planks, press ups, lunges, etc. I couldn’t believe how quickly I felt sore in my glutes after only about 10-20 reps of lunges! Amazing – it’s a great feeling, a short but snappy work out that leaves you feeling sore, but in a good way!

I also noticed that having music alongside it from a youtube playlist, and having commentary from the voiceover on the app helped me to keep up and not pause too much. I’ve noticed that maintaining that stamina is difficult when alone at the gym and you don’t have anyone to encourage you.

I was wondering how on earth I’m going to get through this without any hiccups, considering how much my motivation fluctuates. So I thought I’d document my journey on here! Do take a look at the app and do it yourself too! I’m with you.

Remember, a healthy body is sure to influence a healthy mind.
